Scientific Contributions

Did you just find a new exciting result and you can't wait to discuss it with other young researchers? Can you communicate your research topic in an accessible and innovative way? Are you a young student with some physics related interest which could entertain your fellows? Then ICPS is the right place for you. Here all presentations are welcome: from your summer school up to your PhD project.

When you register, you can choose whether to give a talk or present a poster. You will be asked to submit an abstract and you will be able to modify it until the last available day for the registration (February 28th for early birds and April 20th for late registrants). Remember that an active role in the conference gives you priority in the selection of the participants and increases your chances of attending ICPS 2017! Therefore don’t be shy and prove yourself with a public talk or with a poster.

For your convenience, we make these templates (in LaTeX and Microsoft Word) available to all applicants. These illustrate the quality standard that we require, but are only provided for guidance: students are free to use their own resources, so long as they come close to international standards for abstract presentation.

The abstracts will be evaluated by a scientific committee, presided by Lorenzo Bianchi, postdoc at Hamburg University, and Lucio Milanese, graduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. We expect to divide the topics of the presentations in four main categories:

  • Theoretical and pedagogical: includes all the talks and posters concerning a specific topic of interest for the research in theoretical physics or, more generally, devoted to the pedagogical (and possibly entertaining) introduction of some textbook topics.
  • Experimental: includes talks and posters reporting on some recent experimental results or describing some experimental setup of interest for fundamental research.
  • Applied: includes talks and posters dealing with applications of physics outside the fundamental research. This ranges from daily life applications of classical physics to frontier quantum technologies.
  • Other: whatever comes to your mind which does not fit in the previous categories, but you find amazing.

We are looking forward to listening to a lot of exciting presentations and seeing many wonderful posters.

The student talks will last 15 minutes, including questions.

Awards for best scientific contributions

Prizes will be awarded for the best 3 posters and the best 3 talks, as judged by popular vote of all ICPS participants. The awards, for each category, are:

  • 1st prize: 300 euros
  • 2nd prize: 200 euros
  • 3rd prize: 100 euros

The poster prize competition is kindly sponsored by Nature Physics.

AISF

AISF is the Italian Association of Physics Students (Associazione Italiana Studenti di Fisica) and it gathers together all the Italian students of physics. It was founded in Heidelberg in August 2014 and since January 2015 is a National Committee for the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS). It counts currently 12 Local Committees and 900+ members. Numerous national and international events, such as CISF, iaps@GranSasso, LoT and PAPAP have altready been organized by AISF.

IAPS

IAPS is an association of physics students and student societies from around the globe, working to promote peaceful collaboration among them. Its members are represented by national and local committees, who meet regularly to ensure the relevance of its activities. There are 16 National Committees and 20 Local Committees of IAPS, representing and estimated total of 50000 students. Beside that, there are also individual members from other countries.
