01 ICPS

ICPS stands for International Conference of Physics Students and is the main event of IAPS, organized yearly by one of the IAPS national committees. The purpose of the conference is to create an opportunity for physics students from all around the world to come together, talk about science and technology, practice presenting their research and, last but not least, have a great time.

The week of the conference presents a mix of scientific, social and touristic programs. Students have a chance to listen to and give lectures on various topics in physics, visit the natural and architectural beauties of the country, explore the best laboratories of the host city, make friends from all over the world and get a little glimpse of their cultures.

02 ICPS 2017

ICPS 2017 will be held in Torino and will be the first one organised in Italy in more than thirty editions. It is a unique occasion for Italy to exhibit the best of its scientific community, its dynamism and excellence on the international stage. Students participating in ICPS represent part of the academic leadership of tomorrow and we will showcase outstanding scientific and technological achievements during their stay in Torino.

ICPS is also a tremendous opportunity for cultural exchange, in line with the international vocation of Torino, which, for instance, was demonstrated during the 2006 Winter Olympics.

03 Event Location

The Conference will be hosted in close collaboration with the University of Torino. Its Einaudi Campus, conveniently located within the city, offers an outstanding location to hold an event such as ICPS. A number of activities will also be held in research centres and offices nearby. For instance, we plan to offer visits of the National Institute for Metrology (INRiM), the European Space Agency, the Italian Institute of Technology and other leading research organisations close to Torino. We would also like to get local industries involved by inviting them to join the conference at a number of occasions, mostly on the Einaudi Campus, where guest lectures, student talks and posters will be held.

10 Organizers

Andrea Celon

Chief Executive Officer

Andrea is the President of the Organizing Committee for ICPS2017. He studies Physics at the University of Torino and obtained his Bachelor of Science in 2012. Currently he is enrolled in a Master Degree course in theoretical Physics. He has been the first president of the Italian Association of Physics Students and has taken part to ICPS since 2012.

Michele Re Fiorentin

Chief Financial Officer

Michele graduated in Physics at the Università degli Studi di Torino and then moved to the University of Southampton, where he recently got his PhD in Theoretical Physics. He now holds a postdoc position at the Centre for Sustainable Future technologies of the Italian Institute of Technology in Torino, working on nanoscale modelling applied to the devising of new energy sources.

Riccardo Longo

Deputy CEO and Local Coordinator

Riccardo got his BSc at Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale in 2012. He then moved to Università degli Studi di Torino, where he received his MSc in 2014 and he is actually working to get his PhD. Since 2012 he is member of the COMPASS Collaboration at CERN and his research activity is mostly dedicated to the analysis of the data collected by the COMPASS experiment, in particular SIDIS and polarized Drell-Yan. He is co-founder of AISF and has been president of AISF Torino Local Committee.

Francesco Sciortino

Chief Operative Officer

Francesco studied Physics at Imperial College London before moving to the USA for a PhD at MIT. He specializes in plasma physics, with a particular interest in microturbulence, nuclear fusion and magnetic reconnection. He has previously been a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Physics Students (IAPS) and is a co-founder of AISF.

Marta Crisanti

IAPS Relationship

Marta studies Physics at the University of Perugia, where she got her Bachelor with a work on Energy Harvesting, studying the behavior of non-linear systems. She is currently enrolled in a Master course. She has recently worked at the Institue Laue-Lengevin, in Grenoble, on a project about developing new methods for single neutron counting with CMOS-like detectors.

Giulio Pasqualetti

IT Manager

Giulio received his Bachelor in Physics at the University of Pisa, and he is now studying for his Master at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität of Munich. His main interests encompass quantum optics and ultracold atoms. He is a co-founder of AISF and has been its IT Manager.

Martina Cornagliotto

Sponsorship

Martina received her BSc and MSc degrees at Università degli Studi di Torino in 2012 and 2014, respectively. She is now studying for getting her PhD at the research center DESY in Hamburg. Her research activity is focused on integrable theories. In particular Non perturbative approaches to quantum field theory and conformal field theory in any dimensions.

Lucio Maria Milanese

Editorial Board

Lucio completed his MSci at Imperial College London in June 2016 and he is now pursuing a PhD at MIT, undertaking research in the area of Plasma Physics. His interests outside physics encompass history, politics and economics.

Lorenzo Bianchi

Scientific Coordinator

Lorenzo received his BSc and MSc degrees at Unversità degli Studi di Torino in 2010 and 2012, respectively. He then moved to Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, where he got his Phd in Theoretical Physics in 2015. His research activity is mostly focused on exactly solvable aspects of the AdS/CFT correspondence. He is now in Hamburg where he holds a three-year postdoc position. During his studies he attended 5 times the ICPS, from 2011 to 2015, and he is part of the Scientific Comitee for the organization of ICPS 2017.

Eugenio Valdano

Graphics & Design Manager

Eugenio got his BSc and MSc in Torino in theoretical physics. He then moved to Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris where he recently got his PhD. His research focus is on Complex Systems, and in particular he studies the diffusion of epidemic-like models on complex networks of human and animal interactions.

Mattia Ivaldi

Public Relations and Social Media Manager

Mattia is completing his Bachelor Degree in Physics at the University of Torino, with an experimental thesis about the measurement of visible cross section and luminosity with van der Meer scan in ALICE experiment at CERN. He has been president of AISF Torino Local Committee and he has just been elected as AISF PR Manager.

Chiara Signorile-Signorile

Volunteers Coordinator

Chiara graduated in Physics at the University of Torino and is now completing her Master. She is specialized in infrared divergences in QCD and she hopes to continue her studies with a PhD in Theoretical Physics. She has been the vice-president of AISF Torino Local Committee.
